Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

AODA Compliance Rules

Beginning January 1, 2021: all public websites and web content posted after January 1, 2012 must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA other than criteria 1.2.4 (live captions) and 1.2.5 (pre- recorded audio descriptions).
By law, you must make new and significantly refreshed public websites accessible if you are launching a significantly refreshed website. This means that you are keeping the same web address, but you are making changes such as:

  • A new look and feel to the website
  • How users navigate around it
  • A major update and change feel to the website around it to the content of the website

Content (Content means any information that may be found on a web page or web application, including text, images, forms and sounds.)

Who

By law, you must make new and significantly refreshed public websites accessible if you are:

  • A private or non-profit organization with 50+ employees
  • A public sector organization

     

AODA Assessment

The following Principles are to be audited:

  • Perceivable
  • Operable
  • Robust
  • Understandable

 

Examples of remedies Trilogen has used to meet compliance:

  • Increased font size;
  • Adding Alternative Text;
  • Adding Captions;
  • Adding Descriptions and Meta Data;
  • Adding Distinguishables such as Colours, Contrasts, Spacing;
  • Adding Keyboard Accessibility;
  • Optimizing Naviagation including Search, Headers, Sub Menus;
  • Migrate all content to a new AODA compliant platform.
